FAQs
Is the Xiegu G90 good for beginners?
Yes. The Xiegu G90 is a popular first HF transceiver because it combines a general-coverage receiver, up to 20W transmit power, a built-in automatic antenna tuner and a real-time spectrum display in one compact radio.
The G90 offers more controls and menu options than a basic entry-level radio, so new operators should read the operation manual and become familiar with power, microphone gain, antenna tuning and filter settings before transmitting.
Does the Xiegu G90 have a built-in antenna tuner?
Yes. The G90 includes a built-in wide-range automatic antenna tuner capable of matching antenna systems with an impedance mismatch of up to approximately 5:1.
The tuner is especially useful for portable and field operation, but it cannot make every random wire or severely mismatched antenna safe and efficient. A suitable matching transformer, counterpoise or external tuner may still be required.
Is the Xiegu G90 suitable for POTA (Parks on the Air)?
Yes. The G90 is well suited to POTA and other portable HF activities because it combines compact dimensions, 20W output, a built-in antenna tuner, a spectrum display and a detachable control head.
The radio does not contain an internal battery. Portable operators must provide a suitable external DC power source and antenna system.
What antennas work with the Xiegu G90?
The G90 is designed for a 50Ω antenna system and can be used with many common HF antennas, including:
- Resonant dipole antennas
- End-fed half-wave antennas with an appropriate transformer
- Portable vertical antennas
- Mobile HF antennas
- Linked dipoles
- Off-center-fed dipoles
- Portable field antennas
- Random-wire antennas with a suitable matching system and counterpoise
For the best efficiency and lowest RF loss, use a resonant or properly matched antenna whenever possible.
What power supply does the Xiegu G90 require?
The G90 requires a 10.5–16.5V DC power supply with negative ground. A regulated 13.8–15V DC supply is recommended when full 20W output is required.
Maximum transmit current is approximately 6A. A power supply capable of delivering at least 8A continuously is recommended, with a 10A supply providing additional operating headroom.
Always verify polarity before connecting the radio. Reverse polarity or excessive supply voltage may damage the transceiver.
Does the Xiegu G90 have an internal battery?
No. The Xiegu G90 does not contain an internal rechargeable battery.
For portable operation, the radio must be connected to a suitable external DC power source, such as a regulated power supply or a properly configured portable battery system that remains within the specified 10.5–16.5V input range.
Can the Xiegu G90 operate on the 6-meter band?
No. The standard G90 is an HF transceiver with receive coverage from 0.5 to 30 MHz. It does not provide standard 50–54 MHz transmit or receive coverage.
Can the control head be detached from the main unit?
Yes. The front control head can be detached from the main radio body and connected using the included DB9 remote cable.
This makes the G90 suitable for mobile installations, compact operating desks and other situations where the main radio body must be installed separately from the display and controls.
Can the Xiegu G90 be used for digital modes?
Yes. The G90 can be used for amateur radio digital modes when connected to the appropriate computer interface and configured correctly.
Depending on the operating setup, additional audio-interface hardware or an expansion interface may be required. Reduce transmit power and adjust the audio input level carefully to avoid ALC overdrive and distorted signals.
How long does shipping take?
After dispatch, delivery is handled by DHL Express and is estimated at 3–7 business days, depending on destination and customs processing.
Tracking information will be provided after the order has been dispatched.
Is the Xiegu G90 covered by a warranty?
Yes. Xiegu G90 radios purchased from XieguRadios.com are covered by the XieguRadios.com limited warranty against eligible defects in materials and workmanship.
Please review the Warranty Information page for the current warranty period, coverage, exclusions and claim procedure. Unauthorized hardware modification, disassembly or improper power connection may affect warranty eligibility.
